Casas Viejas Eco Hostel Lodge / Colombia

Lifestyle & branding images for Casas Viejas of their Eco Hostel Lodge and its surroundings.

In the dense cloud forests of the Sierra Nevada mountains, with a view over the Caribbean sea, there is a breathtaking place called Casas Viejas. This eco hostel lodge is located on the land of an old coffee farm that runs entirely on water, and still operates today. Casas Viejas, meaning ‘Old Houses’, used to home the coffee pickers during the harvest season, and gives shelter to adventurous travellers from all around the Globe today. Arriving here from Minca, the closest little village, on a motorcycle, through expansive bamboo forests with magnificent panoramas and not-so-magnificent dirt roads was an experience on its own already.

The ancient tribes of the mountain believe that Sierra Nevada is the heart of the Earth. This, perhaps, is what attracted me to come here.

Although the hostel only opened three years before my visit, in 2016, it quickly gained reputation by being selected the second best hostel in Latin America (Hoscars - Hostelworld Awards 2019). I feel truly grateful for the owners for giving me the opportunity to stay here, and the team for making me feel home away — far far away — from home.
