Encounters

2021

“Dancing has taught me so much that wasn’t present in the culture as knowledge.” - Nita Little

This selection of images is from my series Encounters which I was working on in the early months of 2021. Throughout my Photography Master's Degree at MOME Budapest my primary focus was on touch and human relations. During this process, Contact Improvisation became one of my areas of interest both in my photography and personal life.

I have come to realise that my best works are the ones in which I am deeply involved — mentally, emotionally, and physically — both in terms of subject matter and creative process. Contact Improvisation, which I’ve been practicing since 2019, exemplifies this. From the moment I began exploring this movement method I sensed something different — a profound wisdom, a reconnection to my true human essence, and a deep unlearning of a lifetime of conditioning. I knew I wanted to convey these findings through photography, too.

Although Encounters did not develop into a cohesive and final series, I have grown significantly through the process of experimentation. For the first time in a while I allowed myself to play and fail, adopting the attitude of "I would rather try and fail than not try at all."
